Artist's Description
Laupahoehoe Point Park memorializes the 24 people killed in the April Fools Day 1946 tsunami. The giant waves rose to 56 feet above sea level sweeping away a schoolhouse on the point along with 21 school children. The name of the area comes from the word describing the type of lava (pahoehoe) that formed this peninsula which is shaped like a giant leaf, or lau.
About DJ Florek
Komo mai (Welcome) Traveler, Percussionist, History buff, and Photographer. Photography from The Beautiful Lehigh Valley Pa. to the Amazingly Beautiful Hawaiian Islands.. I have found over these past 35+ years, that photography, can sometimes be over complicated as a means to confuse the layman or empower the pro. Therefore I tend to keep things simple. Photography to me is simply a way to capture the moment in a way that pleases thine eyes and exude a mood or feeling. I hope you like what I see and create with my vision. Here on this site, I have mixed in some of my older film shots as well as the more current digital captures. I do not use Artificial Intelligence. Many thanks for your interest in my work, DJ Just...

What a great photo. That is a hauntingly beautiful place. When I was standing there a few years ago, you could see how vulnerable the people were down there on that point. Featured in Hawaiiana! Aloha nui!!
